Born to Glenn Wright and Ada Wright, Mr. Willie Wright was a 77 year old African American Male, who resided in an ICF/IDD home located at 5701 14th St. NW, Washington, DC 20011 until he joined the Lord on 6/13/15. Mr. Wright was the third of six children per his sister, Mrs. Savoy. He was the youngest of three males in the family. It is not evidenced that he was developmentally delayed as seen in the records. He attended DC Public Schools up to the eighth grade at Cardozo High School. He has a host of nieces and nephews who love him. He was a kind hearted person. For hobbies, he loved fishing, dancing, car shows , baseball, and listening to music of different genres. He could hardly part from newspapers. He held on tight to them and would gladly share the newspaper with someone he liked who entered his home. He enjoyed watching sports on television and most of his favorite programs that were unique to him. He experienced difficulties in the community and was able come out to be the Willie we all knew. In 1991, he went to live in a home operated by DC Family Services. In August 2003, until his transition, he lived in a variety of homes operated by Metro Homes under the Waiver and ICF/IDD models.
Mr. Wright attended a variety of community based day programs where he enjoyed going five days a week as his staff would testify. He attained Life Options Program at St. Johns and retired in 2006. He came out of retirement and began attending Metro Day Treatment Center. In the community, he loved cars and went to car shows with his peers all the time.
Socially he loved to go out, eat and have fun. He loved to collect caps and his cap collection was left behind during one of his moves into another home. He is survived by Sisters Daisy Savoy and Julia Benjamin, two brothers-in-law, Andrew Benjamin and Russell Rolland.
as a Christian, he accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. This was a special request that was fulfilled by his IDT team on 6/11/15 when he received the gift of Holy Sacrament of baptism from Elder Justine Njafuh. it is pertinent to say that Willie's memory will live with most of us here for a long, long time. May he Rest In Absolute Peace with His Maker and Lord, whom he accepted before joining the Heavenly Choir!
