Obituary

Virgie Mae was born to the late John and Virgie Burke on September 15, 1951.She was one of the 16 children:11 boys and 5 girls. Mae; as she was affectionately known by many, grew up in Washington DC where she married her late husband Harry Wiley on May 21st 1979 and from this union three children were born: Amperita, Crystal (Poochie), and Harriet (Tee). Virgie was a devoted mother who regularly volunteered
at her girls' school and she stressed the importance of education to them and because she wanted to be an example to her daughters, she decided to further her education by enrolling in OIC Training Center courses and later at Prince George's Community College. Virgie began working for the Federal Government in 1979 where she spent over 30 years as an employee at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA ). While there, she made lifelong and dedicated friends. Virgie had a love for people, cooking and sharing which uplifted her spirits. She shared this love by feeding family, friends, and even strangers. Virgie loved to talk and she would talk for hours to family, friends and even strangers on the street. Music was another love of hers; she would spend hours on the weekends listening to her oldies but goodies on her 8 track, cassette tapes and vinyl records. She eventually graduated to CD's, she still preferred her tapes. On Saturday, August 29, 2015, while surrounded by loved ones.
