Obituary

Theodore Collin Graves entered his heavenly rest on Monday, May 11, 2015 while resting at home in Adelphi, Maryland. He was the son of the late Charles Graves and Patient Frances Thaxton Graves and was born on January 16, 1926 in Roxboro, North Carolina. Theodore accepted Christ at an early age, by becoming a member of Hyco Baptist Church in Roxboro, North Carolina. He received his education in Person County Schools. After high school, he was called to serve in the United States Army. He was inducted in December 1944 and was honorably discharged in August 1947. After his military service, he became employed by the United States Postal Service, Washington, D.C. He worked as a Supervisor in the Maintenance Department until his retirement after 30 years of dedicated service. He was united in marriage to Erie L. Jefferies on June 10, 1947 and from this union were born three children. He was preceded in death by one son Theodore Jr. four brothers, Charlie Jr., Ernest, Willie and Johnnie: three sisters, Beatrice, Gerlean and Mary.
Theodore was affectionately known to a host of surrogate grandchildren as "PaPa" and to his family and friends as "Pop". As a devoted husband and father. Theodore exemplified a shining example to his children and others. He was a warm, loving and caring person who welcomed everyone to his home with a smile and made them feel a part of the family. He was a storyteller, sharing fond and humorous stories about his life and his family. And everyone knew how much he loved his truck. He always had an array of special treats to share with children as well as adults and dedicated countless hours helping others with home improvement projects. While working at the Postal Service, he devoted his lunch breaks teaching co-workers to read.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved wife Erie L. one son Alfred C.(Sharon), one daughter, Lois A. (Horace Lorenzo), two brothers, Authur of Upper Marlboro, MD. Robert (Francine) of Washington, D.C. three sisters, Dorothy G. Talley, Shirley E. Pildy of Jessup, MD. Mildred Graves of Hyattsville, MD. and brother-in-law, Jermiah Jefferies(Barbara) of Milton, N.C. two sister in Laws, Mary McCain of Milton, N.C. Susie Johnson of Danville, VA. four grand children, Clayton, Marlon, Alpachino, Kim; six great grandchildren, Lauren, Zion, Aja, Dajuane, Antonio, Maria and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and life long friends.
