Obituary

On Thursday, February 18, 2021, Ruth Mae Barron peacefully transitioned to her new heavenly home.  Ruth Mae was born on May 5, 1933 to the late Edward Martin of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina (NC) and the late Classie K. Lattimore of Cleveland County, NC.  Ruth was the fourth child out of ten children.

Ruth was a native of Cleveland, NC. During her childhood , Ruth enjoyed activities such as dancing and playing softball.  Ruth graduated from Green Bethel High School in Boiling Springs, NC in 1954, where she was nominated most popular by her classmates.

In 1954, Ruth moved from North Carolina to Washington, DC for a better life.  Ruth attended Poro Beauty School with aspirations of becoming an Hair Stylist.  She achieved that goal in 1963 by completing beauty school and began working as a Cosmetologist.  She retired from Dominick's Hairstylists after working there for over 20 years. Ruth showed real passion while caring for her client's hair. Her charismatic characteristics helped her develop many long-lasting friendships within the beauty shop and beyond . Everyone loved her and was so grateful to call her "friend".

We all knew Ruth loved the Lord with all her heart and all her soul.  She joined Isle of Patmos Baptist Church around the 1960s while under Pastor G. Rogers. Ruth believed in the word of God and made sure she regularly attended church services, Sunday school, and bible study. Ruth loved her family, friends, and her church family very dearly. Ruth remained active as much as she possibly could up until her death. Her legacy will live on with her loved ones forever.

She was preceded in death by her six brothers.  Ruth leaves to mourn her loving daughter, her son, her seven grandchildren, her two great grandchildren, her great great grandchild, and her two god-daughters . She also leaves to mourn her two sisters.  Her sister Leila Martin has recently transitioned to her new heavenly home within a week after Ruth's passing. Ruth leaves to cherish her memories, many close relatives; aunts, uncles, a host of special nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
