IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Lee
Campbell Sr.
January 3, 1956 – December 20, 2018
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die: a time to plant: and a time to pluck up that which is planted: Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
"A Time to Be Born"
Robert Lee Campbell Sr. also known as "Rocky" was born January 3, 1956, in Washington, DC to Josie L. Woods Campbell and Andrew B. Campbell Sr. He attended District of Columbia Public Schools. Robert completed his vocational in auto mechanics from Ballou High School. He worked several jobs while supporting his children. Robert delivered newspapers for The Washington Post, The Star, and the Daily News; served in the kitchen at Bowling Air Force Base; worked as a janitor at Southeast Community Daycare; volunteered at the Salvation Army on MLK Ave.; partnered with his community outreach program to deliver and package items for Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and did other 'odd jobs' such as painting boats and cleaning out houses. He also served many years as a groundskeeper on the campus of St. Elizabeth Hospital. Robert volunteered faithfully with his church, St. Thomas More, picking up and delivering food to the church and St. Thomas More School. He had a passion to help others and did so endlessly in his community; participating annually in family cookouts. Robert was loved by many and always willing to lend a helping hand. However, his true talent was working on cars and helping neighbors, family members or friends in need. He had a big love for music, performing in a band in the 70s, and showcasing his guitar talent covering Bootsie Collins and the Parliament-Funkadelic band. His free spirit and loving nature is what made him special to many who knew him.
