Norma L. Carter "Na Na", as she was affectionately known, was born in Washington, D.C. on October 8, 1922. She was the oldest of four children born to the late Roy and Florence Carter. She was educated in DC Public Schools. After graducation, she worked at The Bureau of Engravings and The Department of Housing and Urban Development for 49yrs. Upon her retirement, she was a home maker for the elderly until her health begin to decline.

Throughout her life, she gave, nutured and served others. There were a number of family and family friends whom she took in throughout the years. She cooked, provided a shoulder to lean on, an open ear, and sought the necessary assistance in getting them on their feet. Na Na's home was your home.

Na Na was also known for her stories, keeping up with celebrity gossip, and always singing a Whitney Houston tune. She would often tell a story so vivid, you would imagine yourself there. She was our living encyclopedia. If no one else knew the answer Na Na did. These memories will forever be etched in our hearts.
