IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marjorie C.
Jenkins
June 14, 1940 – May 6, 2019
Marjorie Collins Jenkins was born June 14, 1940 to Maylon and Theresa Crews in Washington, D.C. where she accepted Christ into her life at Shiloh Baptist Church at an early age. Growing up in Southwest Washington with her sister Patricia (Pat) and younger brothers, Reginald (Bird) and Nathaniel (Zeke) Marjorie attended and graduated from Cardoza High School. After which, she went on to marry her husband of 61 years, Howard L. Jenkins and begin her work for Woodward and Lothrop, before later entering the federal government with the Department of Treasury. During her 34 years, she served under various titles before finally retiring in early 2000 as a financial program specialist. In her retirement years she enjoyed spending time with her family and, with at least a friend or two in her company, she also enjoyed attending various functions; church concerts especially. Although she so never forgetting her beloved husband of 61 years, Howard (Beau). She also enjoyed traveling and , of course, sports where the Redskins, Ali and Magic Johnson were among her favorites and where she could hold conversation with the most avid of fans. Let us not forget her unrequited love for Luther Vandross. You might catch her humming a tune in the kitchen or eager to catch a performance on television, but he was most certainly one of the greatest loves of her life. Although, a family-oriented woman, her kindness, compassion and generosity did not stop with them alone. Marjorie's heart was much too big to reserve for only the people closest to her and instead extended far beyond her inner circle. She was, indeed, a woman of great heart and would do her best for anyone she found might need a helping hand. She was stern in her caring and fierce in her love but without a doubt, the love was felt. She is preceded in death by her daughter Rhonda M. Hicks. She is survived by her husband Howard, her children; three sons, Darrell ( wife Sheryl), Steve (wife Doris0 and Dr. Michael Hicks ( son -in-law); two daughters Linda and Carlise ( husband Alvin); and her siblings; sister Patricia and her brothers Reginald and Nathaniel. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Nicole, Darrell, Steve, Xavier, Mike, Bira, Maya, Miles and Tristian and 7 great-grandchildren: Caden (5), Kysen (4), Amiyah (2) Kyana (11 months), Mikalah (8 months), Camden (2 weeks). Of all the people who meant so much to her, we could not fail to mention a few of her closest friends, Ms. Gloria Epps, Mrs. Mary Spence, Ms. Birdie McKay and Ms. Carol Crews, along with a host of other friends and family that she depended on.
