IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joshua Christian
Broyier
April 6, 2004 – October 17, 2023
Joshua Christian Broyier of Alexandria, VA, departed this earthly world on October 17,
2023, at the tender age of 19 years young. He was born on April 6, 2004, in Cleveland, OH, to
Donna Jean Broyier and Mark S. Thomas. Joshua's monicker, Little Broccoli or Lil Broccli, as
he spelled it, and Josh were his preferred names.
On June 4, 2023, Joshua graduated from Pymatuning Valley High School. Josh also
attended A-Tech, where he earned a certificate in the welding program. The program allowed
Josh to learn welding processes and operate various advanced welding and fabrication equipment
to manipulate metal for artistic and industrial applications. Josh bought a 2005 Chevy Colorado
with a broken frame, eager to use his welding talent to repair the truck. Soon after buying the
vehicle, Josh was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. The diagnosis rendered a poor
prognosis, but Josh was a warrior beating many odds. Josh's journey of medical miracles
renewed the faith of many as he proved to be more than a conqueror time and time again. "I'm
built different," Josh would say, and indeed Mr. Invincible he was. Josh had his stubborn ways,
but underneath the façade that exuded a strong personality was a young man who was soft and
yearned for love; one full of humor even through his pain, a caring gentleman being considerate
of others throughout his last days.
Josh is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents: Donald Gary
Broyier, Sharon Clare Holmes, Mary Frances, and Charles Thomas; uncles Brian Arthur Holmes
and Robert Arthur Holmes; and stepfather Jeffery Lloyd Elvis and father Mark Thomas. Josh
leaves behind to cherish his memory: his best friend Harrison Babic; mom, Donna Jean Broyier;
sisters, Mystacia Rayne Olson and Serenity Ann Broyier; brothers, Jaydis Robert Landon Jones
and Marcus (Natalie) Thomas; niece, Mabel-Lynn Briar Rose Olson, and nephews, Marcus Jr.,
Braylon, and Jaiden; uncles, Brent Allen (Dayna) Holmes, Stephen (Jenny) Thomas, Robin
Thomas, and Roy Thomas; aunts, Stacy Ann Broyier, Pamela Thomas, Rosalyn (Denomas Jr.)
Moore, and Harriett Crenshaw, a host of cousins, including special ones integral to Josh in his
last 14 months of life: Tondochan LaSylvet, who cared for Josh as he battled leukemia,
Quanyaria Story, Phillip (Betty) Thomas, and Christopher (Kaitlyn) Babcock, special mentor
Sarah Williams who supported Josh in navigating life as he embarked on adulthood when he
turned 18; Anne Siembor, the senior advisor to hand deliver Josh's high school diploma and
validate that he is the first graduate of his maternal family which gave him great joy; many other
friends not inclusive of Bradley, Ian, and Lukas who traveled to Washington, DC for their, "boy"
and the new family members Josh gained at Children's National Hospital who cared for him
during his last 181 days on earth.
