Howard W. Robinson, Sr., 74, of Washington, DC and long term resident
of Silver Spring, MD, passed away on August 23, 2023. He always
prioritized his health in every phase of his life, even when diagnosed
with multiple myeloma.
Howard was born on February 5, 1949, to Ethel Mae (Robinson) Gray and
Sandy Levy of Washington, D.C. After Howard graduated from Eastern
High School in 1967, he went on to study psychiatry at the University of
District of Columbia.
After graduating with a degree in psychiatry, he started his first job at
Howard University Hospital as a psychiatric technician, kickstarting a
32 year career in the field of psychiatry and substance abuse
counseling. He also had an equally long tenure at Providence Hospital.
During his storied career, Howard received numerous awards,
accolades, and personal letters of gratitude for outstanding patient
care.
In the late 80s, Howard met Beverly Mackabee through a family
member. Howard and Beverly married and went on to have one child,
Howard W. Robinson, Jr. He was also a devoted parent to his
stepdaughter, Susie Mackabee and stepson Lukie Mackabee
(deceased). In 2014, Howard was preceded in death by his wife Beverly
after a valiant fight with breast cancer.
In 2009, Howard retired. He spent his time listening to live jazz and
staying active. He was a lifelong student, often studying nutrition, jazz
theory, psychology, metaphysics, and almost anything else you can
think of in his spare time.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, mother Ethel, and
father Sandy. He is survived by his son, Howard Robinson Jr.;
stepdaughter, Susie Mackabee with grandchildren Nazlik, Nazhia,
Nazir, Jordan, and Josie; loving sister Sharon Narcisse; nieces, Veronica
and Jasmine; nephew Charles; great-nieces, Saniyah and Mila; and
great-nephew Kyle— as well as a host of close cousins, family, and
friends.
