IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Guy James
Matthews
March 11, 1964 – February 12, 2023
Guy passed away unexpectedly on Fcbruary 12th at his new home in Takoma Park. Md. He was born at Washington Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park Md. to Alice H. and William J. Matthews. and grew up on Colby Avenue (aka "The Bottom") in Takoma Park to a close knit family with his parents and six siblings. He was so proud and excited to be back on home turf and invited everyone to come for a visit.
Guy was educated in the Prince George s County school system and attended Carole Highlands Elementary School, Nicholas Orem Jr High School and graduated from Northwestern High School in 1982. He worked as a laborer with Colossal Contractors of Burtonsviile. Md. Aquatic Construction Services of Mclean, VA and his pride and joy was working as "guythefencemen" for Metro Fence Company of Bladensburg, MD where he perfected the skill of installing decks, fencing a variety of odd jobs on the side.
Guy was raised at Parker Memorial Baptist Church and enjoyed going to church. He was a child on the go, full of energy, loved watching Kung Fu movies, playing little league football and any activity that took him outside to play with his brother, cousin and gang of neighbors "The Five Muskeleers" He kept it casual and just liked to have a good time.
As he grew older he developed a passion for dressing, especially with hats and felt his best wearing his hats on backwards. On one occasion he went shopping for over an hour in one store just to match his favorite hat with new clothes and got other shoppers involved too. He was the greatest Pop Pop' to his beloved TayVion and enjoyed keeping up with his daughters, calling, getting around or just showing up with family. friends and associates. Guy kept it simple and lived life his way on his own terms. He could get on your last nerve at times, but he always came back to make amends, as if nothing happened.
According to the Word of God. none of us are perfect and we should not judge anyone else, except with LOVE, to encourage each other... "People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart" (I Sam 16 7 NIV) He had a good heart and never held a grudge. We believe his greater hope was for unity and love of Family.. .even more than himself and even if he was the cause of a disagreement.
His trade as a fencemen, protecting people's property, was a gift to our family and his friends by protecting those relationships. May Guy rest in peace from his labor. His living was not vain. He was preceded in death by his parents William J. and Alice H. Matthews, brother Chet H. Matthews and sister Glenda P. Matthews, He leaves to cherish his memories daughters. Latoya Matthews (grandchild. TayVion). Guieshia Matthews and Clarissa Scipio; brothers, Gary "Steve" Matthews and Marvin Lester (Cynthia), sisters, Towanna Matthews-Brown (Leon) Constance Matthews-Brown and Judy Matthews, and a host ot loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and now a gang of only ' Three Musketeers", friends and associates.
