Reflections of

Mrs. Gertha McRae Davis Jones


Mrs. Gertha McRae Davis Jones, was born on June 22, 1945 in Shannon, North Carolina. She
was the 3 rd of 4 children born to the late Ola Mae McRae Vample. Gertha received her early
education in the Roberson County School System attending Panthersford and Oak Ridge
schools. She graduated from Upchurch High School in Raeford, North Carolina in 1964.

After High School, Gertha relocated to Washington, DC. Her first job was working at Julius
Garfinckel's Department Store, located on the corner of 14 th and F St NW. After Garfinckel's,
Gertha worked as a manager for Chase Bank before accepting the position of Payroll
Administrator for United Parcel Service (UPS) in May 1986.

Gertha retired in 2006 from UPS. While working at UPS and prior, Gertha was also employed
as a part-time salesperson for the Hecht Company, now Macey's Department Stores. She
retired from Macey's after more than 25 years of service.

Gertha had great love for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She had a sincere desire to follow
Jesus and to bring others to Him. In July 2006, Gertha joined Paramount Baptist where she
was a faithful member. She served as a member of the Trustee Board, Usher Board, and
Sunday School. Prior to joining Paramount, Gertha was a long time member of Harvey
Memorial (now Master's Touch Praise Ministries) from 1970 to 2006 where she held various
positions and was a faithful servant.

Gertha was preceded in death by her Mother, Ola McRae Vample, and brother, William David
McRae, Sr.

Those left to cherish her memory are her  husband, Ryland Orlando Jones; daughters,
Aleeta "Marie" Davis and Angela "Angie" Davis of Washington, DC; sisters Janice Berry of
Raleigh, NC and Stella Carpenter of Roanoke, VA; nieces Angela McChristian (Marcus) of
Indianapolis IN, Cora Carpenter (Kirk) of Northville MI, Stella Patterson, Sharon Best, Vetlene
Boomer and Vickie Boomer of Washington, DC; nephews Johnny Berry of Trenton NC, William
David McRae, Jr. (Keya) of Temple Hills MD, Mario Berry of Raleigh NC, Jason Carpenter of
Johnson City TN and a host of other relatives and many caring friends.

"His Lord said unto Him, well done thou good and faithful servant: thou hast
been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things; enter into the joy
of thy Lord."
