Obituary

Elnora Marie Taylor departed this life on Saturday, December 17, 2016. She was born to the late Banham Sr. and Elnora Taylor on August 21, 1949, in Washington, D.C. Marie was baptized at an early age at St. Joseph Baptist church by Rev. Joseph E. Johnson. She graduated from D.C. public schools and was employed by the federal government for over 30 years with the Department of Agriculture and the Smithsonian. Those who knew Marie loved her cooking and parties. She was also known for her love of children and helped raise not only her grandchildren but others' kids as well; many have lived with her over the years. She loved music, playing, cards, dancing, family and most of all ... her children. She was a remarkable mother who showered her four children with love, life's necessities, discipline and a lot of happy memories. She instilled hard work and independence in them. They loved her dearly and marveled at her abilities to lavish them with whatever their little hearts desired. She leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters, Sabrina 'Beenee' (Alfred) Taylor-Alston, Shirley 'Cookie' (Williams) Liggins, and Sandra 'LeeLee' (Terrance) Taylor; two brothers-in-heart, Robert Powell, Sr. and Bruce Turner; eight grandchildren, Shanita, Markel, Lundon, Autumne, Kennedy Christian, Diona and Alycia; four great-grandchildren, Harley, Armond, Logan and Honor; one god-child, Amari; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Spotsey 'Manny' Taylor; four brothers, Robert, Joseph, George, and John Taylor; and one sister, Barbara Burch.
