Obituary

"In my Father's house, there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you and I am going to prepare a place for you."

Just as he promised, Jesus has prepared a dwelling place for all believers, one such believer is Dorothy Ann Kately Sylvester. On Sunday August 29, 2021, our beloved wife and mother was called home to her dwelling place with our Heavenly Father. Dorothy was born on July 27, 1947, in St. Martinville, Louisiana, the first-born child of Willie and Mary Ann Kately. She was affectionately known as "Dot" to many of her family and friends.

Dorothy attended Notre Dame Catholic School and Adam Carlson High School in st. Martinville, Louisiana. At the age of eighteen she fell in love and on July 31, 1965, Dorothy and Richard Sylvester were joined in marriage and made Washington DC their home. This union of 56 years was blessed with four beautiful children Angela, Richard Jr., Kelly, and Christopher.

For a brief period, Dot worked in the ASccounting and Customer Service Departments of Montgomery Wards and Central Charge. Dort's deep love for her children and desire to help others led her to start her own daycare services where she nurtured and mentored over 100 children throughout the years. Her nurturing love will continue on in many happy memories through the children that included her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and friends.

Dot was a gifted woman of great faith. As an infant, she was baptized at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville, Louisana. Dot attended Assumption Catholic Church where she served her church community as ministry of services, feeding the poor and a Sodalist. She lived a life of service to others. Dot demonstrated this through her encouraging words to all she encountered, her zest for life, and her optimistic outlook.

Dot was a very quiet person. She was loving and caring of others, ;oyal to family, friends, and her church, and demonstrated great integrity in her relationships with others. She was deeply religiious and lived her faith daily. She enjoyed watching her favorite soaps " The Young and The Restless" and "The Bold and The Beautifu." Dot enjoyed playing card games such as. Bid Whist, Spades and Pokeno: electronic games, going to the casino, riding through the mountains, and simply watching the airplanes take off and land. Spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter was her greatest joy. She will be greatly missed by all!

Dorothy still lives in the hearts of those who loved her dearly. She is survived by her beloved husband Richard: her children Angela Sylvester (Elysa), Richard Sylvester, Jr. (Lillian), Kelly Lomax, and Christopher Sylvester (Tammy), her grandchildren Brittney Morris (Charles), Nicholas Bratcher, Raymond Lomax, Jr. RayVaughn Lomax, Dempse Sylvester, Alana Sylvester, Laila Sylvester, Maya Sylvester: her great-granddaughter Alaiya Casey- Lomax: dearest niece Carrice Ambrose (Stuart), whom she had an unique familial relationship with: her grand niece and nephew Ariana Lowe and Ashton Ambrose: her sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws Catherine Ealey and Ronald Ealey: Liz Orphe' and Joseph Orphe': and Debbie Alexander, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends: her grand puppies Bentley, Kobe, Jax, Kiley, and Chase.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents Willie and Mary Ann Kately, and her sister Hilda K. Smith.
