Charlie overland Burrell was born January 2,1919 to the late Rebecca and Frank Burrell. He passed away peacefully on March 16, 2017 at VCU/MCU hospital in Richmond, Va. Charlie grew up in New Kent County and later he joined the U.S. Army. He was enlisted from January 27, 1942- October 9 ,1945 during WWII. Charlie was a light truck driver assigned to 425th Engineer Company.During his time in the service Charlie was awarded 4 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon and 4 Overseas Bars. After his time in the Army he returned home and moved to Northern Virginia / Washington, D.C. area and lived with his sister Viola Johnson and her family, Charlie was employed at the Pentagon as a maintenance technician. During this time, he met the love of his life Agnes True Fortune. They were married on August 25, 1956 and were married until her death on December 18, 2014. Charlie had joined church at an early age and upon being married he and his wife moved to Washington , D.C. where they joined the Isle of Patmos Baptist and became Deacon and Deaconess. Charlie used his mechanical skills to assist members of his church and community by doing plumbing, heating, and other home repairs at a rate that they could afford, and at times for nothing other than a Thank - you. Charlie leaves behind his Sister-in-Law Eliza Foy and a host of nieces and nephews among those devoted Doris Roberts, Sarah Mayes, Agnes Fortune, Rosa John and Vincent Fortune. Three God Sons, Kelvin Smith, Michael Hough and Chester Roberts, Jr. whom was his principle caretaker until death.
