IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barrington James
Hammond
November 18, 1970 – August 13, 2025
A UNIQUE LIVING
Barrington James Hammond was born in Washington, D.C. on November 18, 1970. The 2nd born child of James R. Hammond, Father (Deceased), and Mother, Bernice Cosey Hammond. He was an exuberant person that lived life fully. Around the age of 5 years old., his Aunt Judine started to refer to him as "Barry." The name stuck and we started to refer to him as simply "Barry." As he aged , he emphasized that his name is "Barrington."
Barry was educated in the District of Columbia, Prince George's County, and Montgomery County Public Schools. He attended the University of the District of Columbia, earning an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. Barry always had a keen interest in participating in social justice issues. He would often participate in protests, rallies, and discussions concerning the rights of others. The uniqueness of Barry was that he constantly reminded us that he loved people. He never judged. One of his favorite sayings was "DO YOU."
Barry was creative. He was a true DIYer who loved to figure out how things worked. He enjoyed working with wood and crafted benches and bookcases. He even made a loft bed for his sister to sleep in during her first year of college. Barry loved the rhythms of Go-Go like so many Native Washingtonians. He was a frequent attendance at local music venues. He enjoyed fishing and the ocean. He loved taking trips to visit campsites and even climbing mountains.
Barry was hardworking and driven. He was an entreprenuer who worked within various industries.,including transporttion, security, retail, and healthcare. Barry was a "Talker." He was especially known for his long and comprehensive conversations that he engaged so many of us with. No matter the topic. Barry's conversations always seemed to remind his conversationalist of the importance of 'Love." He loved his family fiercely.
Barry is preceded in death by his older daughter, Ranisha B. Hammond. The memories of Barry will be enjoyed by his younger daugher , Raven B. Hammond; his grandson, Ryan B. Belinga (son of Ranisha); his Mother, Bernice Cosey Hammond; his siblings, Asa C. Council ( Alphonso Jr.), Christopher Ian Hammond (Aulia), and Ita C. Hammond; his nieces, Ashleigh, Alisha, and Alexis; his nephews, Camerin and Chase; the mother of his daughters, Rashida J. Allen; and his grandnieces, Auraleigh and Arielle. And of course, all of his many aunts, uncles, cousins and so many firends and other associates.
" Peace and Love." Thank you for being "Uniquely Barry."
