Ann Smith 95, of Washington D.C. passed away on Tuesday May 30, 2017, After a courageous battle she succumbed to her illness, Ann was born January 23, 1922 in Brookland, Virginia to the late Clem and Fanny Broggins. She moved to Washington D.C. at the age of twenty one. For many years, she worked for the Washington Hotel. Years later she married John D. Smith and out of that union came seven children. Ann dedicated her life as a home maker and mother. She was a giving and loving person. She gave everyone the benefit of doubt. One of her favorite quotes was "Just do it, don't let nothing block your blessing". Ann always encouraged those who cross her path to keep the faith. Her greatest joy preparing and sharing holiday dinners with family and friends. She is preceded in death by seven sisters, six brothers and one son Isaiah Smith. She is survived by one sister Mertie Skates of Phenix, Virginia, six children Calvin Smith (Evelyn) John D.Smith. Jr., Viola Smith, Myrtle Smith, Alberta Smith, of Washington D.C. and Yvonne Jenkins of Temple Hills, Maryland, Six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. POEM-YOUR FINALLY HOME Although your work on earth is done. Your life in heaven has just begun. Your struggles here were hard and long but they are finally over now and you're finally home. Life wasn't easy by choice or fate. A decision made, sometimes too late. A fight to the finish always strong. Rest easy mom you're finally home.
