Obituary

Agnes Marie Gaither, affectionately known as "Alice Jane", departed this life on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at Georgetown Hospital in Washington, D.C. She was the daughter of the late Alice Everton and Joshua Matthews. She was born on June 8, 1940 in Montgomery County, Maryland. She married Wallace Gaither in 1957 and from this union they had 2 sons Carlton Gaither and Mujahid (Conrad) Gaither. Agnes attended school in the Montgomery County Public School system. She began her work career as a daycare provider. She later secured a position with the Montgomery County Board of Education as a school bus driver for several years. Her last position was with the Ride On Bus Company.Agnes worked there until she was stricken with a debilitating lung disease. She retired from Ride On in 1985. Agnes had several hobbies. She loved pictures puzzles, playing cards, dancing and shopping. She was always dressed to make a fashion statement. She loved spending time with her family. Her sons Mujahid and Carlton were the apple for her eye. Although they didn't always agree on everything, they loved each other. She adored her mother. During her later years Agnes moved her mother into her home. Agnes would always talk about taking "Mom" to the hair dresser. When her Mom became ill. Agnes took care her during her illness. She especially enjoyed coming to Sandy Spring to visit her favorite aunt, Callie Thompson, and cousins Robinette Brooks and Shirley Johnson. She also spent time with her best girlfriends, Ann Simmons, Janice Carter and Marie Thomas. Agnes leaves to cherish her memories, a loving and devoted son, Mujahid Gaither, a granddaughter, Angel Moody, a grandson, De Angelo Moody, an aunt, Annie Matthews, a devoted sister-in-law, Bertha Gaither, a Goddaughter, Paulette (Penny) Sansbury, a devoted niece. Toni Gaither, adevoted cousin, Georgie Mitchell and longtime friend Wesley Joyner. She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace Gaither, mother Alice Everton and son Carlton Gaither. Agnes was blessed with sveral nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
